Switch from PC to Mac?

Yes, I know this sounds like an article dug out of the archives from 1991 but it IS current … and highly relevant.

I’m a longtime user of PCs … going back to the IBM XT back in the pliocine era of desktop computing … so the fact that I’m considering changing over to an Apple platform is not the result of a mid-life crisis or some rash and impulsive urge.

I’ve thought for years that Macs were more suited for tech-impaired computer dilettantes and NPR listeners (well OK, I do listen to NPR).

The thing is, I need a new work computer and have been waiting for the new Vista release but initial reviews, although “good,” don’t fill me with enthusiasm.  Sounds like more of the same; plus, I’m more and more doing video and audio development and I’m finding the PC to be a bit of a pain in the hard drive.

So, I started looking at the Mac OS X Tiger operating system more carefully and, much to my surprise, discoverd that Tiger is built on top of an industrial strength UNIX platform … and that the UNIX underbelly can be accessed via a system window.

Plus, as I already knew, Boot Camp would allow me to run and XP Pro installation and have the best of both worlds.

Praise the lord and pass the potatoes! This looks like the way to go.

I’ll be researching this some more and let you know what I decide.
